The literature series stimmen afrika presents in cooperation with the Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf in a two-part project six authors, each presenting two short stories: Sinzo Aanza (DR Congo), Nafissatou Dia Diouf (Senegal), Jo Güstin (Cameroon), Karen Jennings (South Africa), Jennifer N. Makumbi (Uganda), Olumide Popoola (Germany/ Nigeria). Focus in April 2021 was Against Forgetting. All texts for View to the Future were special written for and are part of the second part of the series.
Ten years ago, a traumatic experience brings together Rahul, Crystal and the protagonist. Olumide Popoolas. „Sit down“ tells their story, looking at the different ways of how we react and process trauma. Over the course of the story the ambivalence of changing friendships and evolving relationships is explored.
The reading will be followed by an author’s talk via video, moderated by author and journalist Mohamed Amjahid. Guest Wiebke Wehebrink will talk about translating the text into German. Actress Azizè Flittner will read from the short story.
