Dance performance by and with Qudus Onikeku

In Spirit Child, choreographer and dancer Qudus Onikeku draws inspiration from Ben Okri's Booker Prize-winning novel The Famished Road (1991). The young Azaro from the world of spirits decides to mingle with people. He becomes a wanderer between worlds, searching for answers to existential questions: What is really essential? Shouldn't people rethink and reinvent their own existence? In his works, Qudus Onikeku builds a bridge between tradition and modernity and at the same time reflects on social, economic, historical and political conditions as well as the future of humanity in a global dimension.„I've been looking closely at the questions of 'contemporary Africa', its aesthetics and its identity; the differences, the discourse about it, the power play around it, the instability of reality, the chauvinism, the colonialism, the hegemony, the migration, exile – and the noisy confusion that they all produce together, in my daily reality and that of humanity.“
