DiversCITY – Festival of cultural differences

Open Air at Ebertplatz

Not long now – We are hosting in cooperation with PAMOJA Afrika e.V. the 3. diversCITY-Day on 11.09.2021 at Ebertplatz in Cologne.

This year’s diversCITY-Day presents you with a varied stage program of international music, theater, a children’s program, a speaker’s corner and many possibilities for interaction and creative participation, food and beverages stands, numerous sale stands and a panel discussion on the subject of “Diversity as Power“.

Etienne Eben and Band will be opening and the Moroccan Band N3rdistan will be closing at around 8:30 pm! You can find the program flyer here.

The goal of our event is the promotion and recognition of the diversity of cultural expression from many perspectives and to strengthen as well as foster the dialogue between citizens. Residents from 180 nations call Cologne their home, making open-mindedness and tolerance part of the city’s atmosphere.

We want to celebrate a creative and respectful togetherness with our festival of cultural differences. The Open-Air event offers the public opportunities for discussions with different NGOs, initiatives and communities who will be presenting their work during our day-long event.

The panel discussion ”Diversity as Power” evolves around the power of multiple points of views. Diversity as a political category which not only identifies but aims towards eliminating social injustice. This pertains racism and all kinds of discrimination: from ethnicity, race, political belief, sexual orientation to social standing, age, body and others. A diverse cultural as well as political environment allows equal access to opportunities and resources. Focus here will be on Germany, where we will also discuss systematic racism, a form of racism that is embedded through laws and regulations within an organization or society and how to combat institutionalized racism through active engagement.
We are delighted that the patron of this year‘s africologneFESTIVAL, the Mayor of Cologne Henriette Reker, as well as State Secretary of Integration Serap Güler, will be greeting this year’s diversCITY-Day visitors!
The exact program will be found on our website in late August.
