ART AND REVOLUTION : The Revolution devours its children !

Film & discussion

Panellists Jan-Christoph Gockel, Julia Gräfner, Jennifer Weiss, Eike Zuleeg, Amsa Sankara

Following the idea "Put the people from the theatre on the street" („Setzt die Leute aus dem Theater auf die Gasse“) from the famous revolutionary drama Danton's Death by Georg Büchner, the Graz Schauspielhaus has set out on the traces of the 2014 revolution in Burkina Faso. In contrast to the bloody failure of European manipulators, as shown in Büchner's play, a political utopia was realized in the streets of Burkina Faso. The Burkinabe popular uprising is regarded as a shining example of civic commitment and democratic awakening. Director Jan-Christoph Gockel witnessed this on location in 2014 and reenacted it four years later in the style of a fake documentary with actors, Burkinabe activists and artists. The film is in post-production and is scheduled for release at the beginning of 2020. With a few excerpts, the screening gives an insight into the cinematic work of the crossover project. In cooperation with Schauspielhaus Graz and Theater im Bauturm Köln.
